About us
GEL is one of the leading express freight networks in Germany. Starting with a focus on bulky, heavy, sensitive and especially time-critical goods servicing commercial customers, GEL occupied a logistics niche some 30 years ago. While parcel services and general cargo networks have been working on the highest possible standardisation of their processes, GEL took the other path: the non-automated handling of goods with special challenges.
With the emergence of e-commerce, specifically in the last ten years, it was once again GEL that realigned its business model to meet the special challenges of this market. Thus, the former B2B network increasingly developed into a B2C specialist for XXL products with special services focusing on private consignees.
Today, we enable e-commerce players, retailers and manufacturers to offer full coverage B2C and B2B multichannel services. With suitable IT connectivity, transparent shipment tracking and short transit time.
What we stand for
It is our job to lead the company into a successful future by positioning GEL as an established, economically successful player in the market. To achieve this, we keep close contact to our customers and try to meet their needs with the most possible flexibility. Just as we have always done - with a lot of passion and joy, but also with high standards.
In order to achieve and sustain this, we rely on an efficient network that we are constantly expanding and optimizing for the future. We are driven by our demands for outstanding quality. GEL is the right partner for e-commerce business. A partner that knows how to handle demanding goods - and that simplifies the shipping process. Beyond 2026
We will continue to be driven by our role as an “enabler of e-commerce” for online retailers and platforms—empowering them to deliver XXL goods to private consumers just as easily as a standard parcel. By doing so, we become an integral part of the value chain, creating a seamless and positive end-to-end shopping experience: from purchase to delivery right to the customer’s doorstep, or even directly into the home if desired. All with one goal in mind: delighting our customers’ customers. Guided by our vision: “We are the first choice when it comes to making every single recipient of demanding goods simply happy.”
Delivery to commercial customers will continue to be a core pillar of GEL’s services. Not only because the future of e-commerce increasingly integrates intermediaries and retail locations into our customers’ distribution strategies, but also because B2B platforms—and, in particular, our ability to help B2B shippers optimize their shipping and logistics processes—remain a key component of the GEL value proposition.

Speed and transparency for customers and consignees have been the primary goals. A total of 5 MDE generations have been used to date; since 2022, the 5th generation has been in use.

15 GEL-owned locations
GEL expands its network to 15 locations with Hannover and Kiel.

GEL celebrates its 15th anniversary with NEE Net Express Europe.

Anniversary!
GEL celebrates its 20th anniversary at the "transport logistik 2013" trade fair in Munich.
Relocations of two HUBs to Kassel and Frankfurt enable GEL to increase capacity and improve connectivity.

Expansion
Further GEL branches are opened in Berlin, Bremen, Saarbrücken and Hagen.

New business premises
GEL opens further branches in Borken, Dresden, Freiburg, Hamburg, Würzburg and Zwickau.

Building of a new HUB
With the new building in Werl, GEL is expanding the capacity of the multi-level HUB system to four HUBs.

Digital milestones
Introduction of real-time shipment tracking and electronic delivery scanning offer even faster and more complete tracking of the shipment.
2004
Rename to GEL Express Logistik GmbH
A lot going on in 2004! Renaming to GEL Express Logistik GmbH. Focus and optimisation of the transshipment points. Relocation of the HUB Baunatal to Kassel - creation of additional capacities.
2001
HUB Baunatal
With the opening of the HUB in Baunatal, GEL is expanding its regional transshipment operations on the network.
1999
Founding of an European Alliance
GEL Logistik Express founds NEE
with SEUR (E), Calberson (F) and City Link (formerly Target) (UK) to form the strategic alliance NetExpress Europe, based in Paris.
Later, further partners join the network.
1997
Founding of HUB Süd GmbH
Founding of HUB Süd GmbH.
Its task: development and operation of regional HUBs. In November the first HUB in Kürnach near Würzburg goes into operation.
1993
The partners of the GbR establish a GmbH
The partners of the GbR establish a GmbH. The headquarter of GEL Logistik Express is relocated to Willich near Düsseldorf.

Start of HUB operation
A HUB is being built in Wehretal near Eschwege.
