Parcel delivery services have set new standards with their tracking systems and time slots, keeping recipients updated. These services are tailored to the needs of private consignees, ensuring a seamless e-commerce customer journey with the clear goal of maximizing their satisfaction.
Delivering XXL shipment, such as high-quality bicycles, large-screen TVs, or washing machines, is a whole different challenge. These items are often heavy, bulky, fragile, or particularly valuable and generally cannot be left with a neighbor or placed in a weather-protected spot behind a hedge. They require scheduled deliveries to ensure the recipient is at home.
Even with XXL deliveries, customers expect the same level of service they are used to from parcel services. They want to know the exact delivery day and time, have the option to reschedule if necessary, and ideally receive a service that delivers the washing machine directly to the room of choice - without requiring any extra effort on their part.

For deliveries requiring two-person handling to the point of use, the local depot contacts the consignee by phone to schedule a delivery appointment. This approach allows for coordination of the delivery day and time slot, as well as clarification of important details regarding local conditions to ensure a smooth delivery process.Driver Pre Advice
For overnight deliveries intended to arrive within 24 hours, the driver contacts the consignees approximately half an hour before arrival to inform them of the impending delivery.1

Stay Up to Date with Delivery Date and Time Slot
Without media disruption, the consignees receive all relevant information about their expected shipment via email or SMS. In total, GEL sends three emails:
- Handover from sender:
Note on the electronic recording of the goods and the timely communication of the delivery date. - One Day Before Delivery:
Your shipment has arrived at the GEL delivery depot. On the Day of Delivery with Time Slot:We will arrive within the announced time slot. If delays occur due to traffic or other factors, the time slot is continuously adjusted to ensure scheduling confidence. - On the Day of Delivery with Time Slot:
We will arrive within the announced time slot. If delays occur due to traffic or other factors, the time slot is continuously adjusted to ensure scheduling confidence.
Since consignees already provide their email address and/or mobile number when shopping online, they are automatically informed about the delivery status in our standard process - without any media disruption.
Depot Pre Advice
Personal Appointment Scheduling for Delivery
With the depot pre advice, our depot contacts the consignee by phone to arrange a delivery appointment. This is mandatory for two-man handling deliveries to the room of choice, as it not only involves coordinating the delivery date and an initial time slot but also clarifying important details about the on-site conditions. This ensures a smooth and efficient delivery process.
The depot pre advice is particularly suitable for customers ordering high-value products or preferring personal coordination. As with the technical pre advice, the depot pre advice also allows the recipient to check the current delivery time slot via shipment tracking on the day of delivery.
Driver Pre Advice
GEL also offers overnight delivery, ensuring that the ordered product reaches the consignee just 24 hours after being handed over to GEL. In this case, our driver informs the recipient about the upcoming delivery approximately 30 minutes before arrival.
With the driver pre advice, consignees can also check the current delivery time slot via shipment tracking at any time on the day of delivery.
